Met Gala 2016

Hello lovers!

The biggest fashion event of the year, The Met Gala, was recently held in New York on Monday night. It’s a time where designers, models, journalists, photographers, celebrities and muses all get together. Attendees dress up in fabulous flamboyant outfits, celebrate fashion’s influence on culture (and vice versa) and learn the history of fashion at the Met Museum. It’s a fun and “fufu” yet educational experience. It’s always been a DREAM of mine to attend. Every year has a theme, and this year’s theme was Manus X Machina: Fashion in an age of Technology. Some took more of a literal approach to the theme while others  were a bit more subtle and creative; letting the theme be incorporated in the actual design. There were a great deal of amazing ensembles at the gala. I will be listing my personal favorites and most memorable down below. Enjoy!

Claire Danes in a show stopping Zac Posen dress that lit up in the dark. This is how you take the theme and create something magical! The gown included about 30 battery packs. Claire Danes is always chic, and this look truly made Cinderella come to life! She might be the winner of the night.

Kim Kardashian in Balmain. Very robotic. It would’ve been interesting if she did the light contacts Kanye did. But she always slays in the beauty department.

Beyonce in a flesh colored Givenchy latex gown. There were memes saying she was wearing “Becky’s” skin and the accents were her teeth. I can’t with social media sometimes, haha. #Lemonade #NotBecky

Young it couple of the moment Gigi Hadid (wearing Tommy Hilfiger) and Zayn Malik (wearing Versace). They’re so hot together.

Lupita Nyong’o in Calvin Klein Collection. There were some pics where she got lost n the background, but she looks beautiful here. When is Lupita ever not lovely? Her skin + colors  = Perfection.

Emma Stone in Prada. Reminds me of Game of Thrones a little bit. I like!

Emma Watson in Calvin Klein. Elegant pants that have the feeling of  a skirt is becoming her staple. I love it, it’s really unique (and comfy lol).

Speaking of Blake Lively, she’s shown here wearing a beautiful Burberry gown.

Lily Aldridge in Michael Kors Collection. Beauty, brows, body and bling. A winning combination. I love that her brows are gold, I can see that becoming a Summer trend very soon.

Kate Hudson in Atelier Versace. This dress is jaw dropping. Look at that detail. If you want sexy, show stopping avant garde Atelier Versace is one of my personal go to’s. Hudson’s another red carpet Queen to me.

MET Gala 2016

Naomie Harris in Burberry. Her red carpet style is so underrated to me. She’s one to watch.  She’s giving me a mix between Naomi Campbell and Gabrielle Union. Love the deep v-neck and diamonds. And the colors against her skin!

Dakota Johnson

Dakota Johnson in Gucci. I actually love how colorful and fun this is. It’s is a departure from her usually style. But you can’t go wrong with Gucci, especially right now; they’ve been killing it! I would’ve like to see someone like Nicki Minaj in a dress like this. Since she has a colorful personality, but the lace implements the sex appeal. With the right tailoring and her signature sleek jet black bangs, I think that would have worked.

Zendaya, another one to watch due to her willingness to take fashion risks, was seen wearing a gold Michael Kors Collection dress. She gives me “Rihanna’s baby sis” style and swag wise. I love watching her growth each red carpet.

Margot Robbie in Calvin Klein Collection. She really exudes sex appeal with ease and effortlessness. She’s beautiful. I love this dress. Prom inspo anyone (hint, hint, lol).

Lily Collins in Valentino. Beautiful!

MET Gala 2016

Bella Hadid in Givenchy Haute Couture. I probably would have chose a different shoe. I don’t know, I still on the fence about that. However I do like this creation. Where else but the Met, right?

Ciara in an H&M hand beaded with Swarovski crystals. I see she chose to have fun with metallic hair.

Kate Bosworth a beautifully detailed Dolce & Gabbana gown. I also love the headpiece and makeup.

Karlie Kloss in a sexy white Brandon Maxwell gown and a clutch that lights up. Brandon Maxwell’s also killing it right now. Later in the night red wine was reportedly spoiled on the dress (gasp!) so the designer had to cut the dress and transform it into a mini. The shorter version looked just as good (sighs in relief).

Zoe Kravitz in Valentino. Lovely!

Karolina Kurkova in Marchesa. Marchesa is another go to for show stopping, intricately done designs.

Maria Sharapova in a red Juan Carlos Obando dress. I love the color, detail and the single gold earring adds interest.

Michelle Monaghan in a ruffled Rosie Assoulin dress. Wow! This is feminine, edgy, girly, sexy, and interesting all at the same time. I would’ve love to see Rihanna (if she was there) in something like this is her jet black short haircut or bob.

Rita Ora in Vera Wang Collection. Rita can be very hit or miss with fashion in my honest opinion. But when she hits, she HITS. And this was a hit. Beautifully made.

Joan Smalls in Balmain. To die for! Beyonce also would’ve slayed in this.

Alexa Chung

Alexa Chung in Thakoon. I love that she went for a more fresh faced route with the makeup and pushed back the hair. It make the suit look more modern and allows it to shine effortlessly.

Amber Valletta also went that route in the beauty department while wearing an intricate creation by H&M.

Irina Shayk in Givenchy Haute Couture. She’s so stunning, she can do no wrong in my eyes.

MET Gala 2016

Lala Anthony wowed in a Nicholas Jebran gown. This is one of her best red carpet looks ever in my opinion. Beautiful makeup as well.

Poppy Delevingne in Marchesa.

Kylie Jenner in Balmian. The Kardashian/ Jenners and the current top models love them some Balmain, huh? I feel that this looks like a combo of two or three previous Balmain gowns that she’s worn in the past. But nonetheless this is a very  beautiful dress. And I love the sleek black bob and glowy makeup. This is another great Prom inspo.

Well there you have it! Some of my favorite and most memorable Met Gala 2016 looks. Lots of metallic, shimmer and cutouts as far as constant themes of the night. There were way more looks but way to many too post. Besides, these were the stood out to me. Let me know what you think. What were your favorites and least favorites? Did people follow the theme correctly or fall flat? I’d love to know what you think.
